Beberapa waktu lalu, saya coba tengok blogspot saya yang lama saya biarkan mati suri setelah onlinenya blog AgusSiswoyo[dot]com. Saya memperhatikan dalam-dalam, apa kelebihan blogspot saya dibanding blog gratisan lainnya?
Saya pikir tidak ada kelebihan. Sekaligus tidak ada kekurangan. Karena semua sama-sama menggunakan layanan gratis dari blogger.com. Fitur yang digunakan pun tidak jauh beda. Kalaupun ada selisih beda, itu tergantung selera tiap blogger dalam ‘mendandani’ tampilan blognya.
Lalu saya kembali ke blog ini. Lagi-lagi saya membandingkan dua blog tempat update pemikiran saya ini. Hingga akhirnya saya temukan salah satu keunggulan blog berbayar yang tidak mungkin dimiliki sejenis blogspot cs. Yaitu tersedianya fitur email dengan domain blog sendiri.
Apa untungnya memiliki email address dengan embel-embel namaanda.com? Kan sudah banyak tersedia yang gratisan seperti di Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, Lycos dan lainnya?
Kalau boleh saya ibaratkan. Lebih nyaman mana, tinggal di rumah sendiri atau kontrak rumah orang lain? Saya yakin sebagian besar orang akan lebih prefer tinggal di rumah sendiri, meskipun mungkin tidak sebagus daripada indekos atau ngontrak.
Selain itu, dengan membawa domain sendiri, peluang Anda jadi lebih besar untuk beken di kalangan netter. Sehingga, sore ini buru-buru saya ganti email saya di Facebook, Friendster, Twitter dan MyPulau dengan membawa nama domain ini. Yaitu: agus.siswoyo@agussiswoyo.com.
Syarat utama untuk memakai aplikasi ini tentu saja harus punya blog berbayar. Yang masih gratisan? Minggir dulu deh. Hehehe… 
Langkah teknis untuk setting email jenis bagaimana? Wah, panjang ceritanya. Saya agak malas menulis step by stepnya disini. Saran saya, silahkan beli panduannya di CafeBisnis. Semua hal tentang blogging building dibahas disitu.
